Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about blackjack strategy, rules, and our trainer
What is blackjack and how do I start?Rules
Blackjack is a casino card game where you try to get closer to 21 than the dealer without busting. Beginners should first learn four actions: Hit, Stand, Double Down and Split. The best first step is not memorising every chart line. Learn card values, understand the dealer upcard, then practise common decisions with the free trainer.
Hard 16 vs dealer 10: should you hit or stand?Strategy
Hard 16 vs dealer 10 usually means Hit in standard basic strategy, unless surrender is available and applies. This is one of the most searched blackjack spots because it feels uncomfortable either way. The dealer 10 is a strong upcard, so standing on 16 is often a weak long-term position. This does not mean the hand will win. It means the decision is usually less costly over many similar hands.
Soft 17 vs hard 17: what is the difference?Rules
Soft 17 is A+6 or another hand where the Ace can count as 11; Hard 17 has no Ace counted as 11, or the Ace already has to count as 1.
Soft hands are more flexible because the Ace can switch to 1 if needed. Table rules also matter: some tables use H17 (dealer hits soft 17), while others use S17 (dealer stands soft 17). S17 is usually more favourable to players.
3:2 vs 6:5 blackjack: which payout is better?Payout
3:2 blackjack is more player-friendly than 6:5: a $100 blackjack pays $150 profit at 3:2, but only $120 profit at 6:5. Both may look similar at the table, but 6:5 is much less favourable for players. Before playing online or at a live dealer table, check whether blackjack pays 3:2 or 6:5, and also review H17/S17, surrender and split rules.
Can you count cards in online blackjack?Online
Traditional card counting is usually not practical in most online blackjack games. Many RNG tables shuffle every round, and many live dealer tables use multiple decks, cut cards, table limits and reshuffle procedures. These conditions make classic card counting very different from a physical shoe dealt deeply in a casino. For most online players, basic strategy, table-rule selection, bankroll limits and avoiding side bets are more practical.
When should I split, double down, or avoid insurance?Decisions
Common basic strategy often splits A-A and 8-8, avoids splitting 10-10, doubles strong 10 or 11 situations, and usually treats insurance as a poor long-term beginner play. Rules vary, so use the trainer and strategy chart as a practice guide, then check the table rules before playing.
What should UK, Australian, New Zealand and EU players check before playing?Global
Before playing real-money blackjack, UK, Australian, New Zealand, European and international players should check local availability, table rules, payments, withdrawals and responsible gambling tools. Key items to review: - 3:2 or 6:5 blackjack payout - Dealer hits or stands soft 17 (H17/S17) - Surrender, double-after-split and re-splitting rules - Minimum and maximum stakes - Payment methods, withdrawal limits and identity checks The trainer is free practice only; real-money access and rules depend on your location and the provider.
Can you win money with blackjack strategy?Reality Check
Blackjack strategy can reduce avoidable mistakes, but it cannot remove variance or guarantee profit. It helps you respond consistently to dealer upcards and can lower the house edge when table rules are reasonable. It does not guarantee winning sessions, beat poor payouts, or protect you from over-staking. Treat blackjack as entertainment, practise first, set limits, and only use money you can afford to lose.
