Baccarat totals use only the last digit
Suits do not affect the total. Ace is worth 1, cards 2–9 keep their face value, and 10, Jack, Queen and King are worth 0.
Add the two or three cards and keep only the final digit. Seven plus eight totals 15, so the baccarat total is 5.

An opening total of 8 or 9 is a natural
Naturals come first in the procedure. If either side has 8 or 9 with its initial two cards, standard baccarat normally stops drawing and compares the totals.

Player has a natural 9, so no more cards are drawn and Player wins.

Does Player always draw on 5 in baccarat?
Yes under standard Punto Banco rules, unless a natural 8 or 9 has already stopped the drawing procedure. Player draws on an initial total of 0–5 and stands on 6–7.

When does Banker stand on 3?

Can a player choose whether Banker or Player draws?
